Headway City College (HCC) officially launched its collaboration with PickaBook Sri Lanka, introducing a free reading and public speaking initiative designed to reignite the love of reading among children and young learners. The launch marks another milestone in HCC’s commitment to nurturing confident, imaginative, and expressive students across Ja-Ela, Kandana, Seeduwa, Pamunugama, and Wattala.
This collaboration brings a refreshing dimension to English learning by focusing not only on academic reading but also on the joy of exploration through books. Through engaging sessions inspired by PickaBook’s innovative model, HCC students are encouraged to read for pleasure, think creatively, and communicate their ideas confidently in English.
Fostering Reading, Imagination, and Expression
The initiative was launched in partnership with PickaBook Sri Lanka, an organization renowned for its mission to “change the world, one page at a time.” It aims to build stronger reading habits among Sri Lankan youth while enhancing essential life skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and public speaking.
At HCC, these activities are seamlessly integrated into the college’s academic environment. Students are invited to read, summarize, and present their favorite stories, strengthening both language fluency and presentation confidence. This approach encourages learners to connect reading with imagination — transforming each book into an opportunity for expression and personal growth.
A Free Opportunity for Every HCC Student
In keeping with HCC’s vision to provide accessible, high-quality English education, participation in this program is completely free for all HCC students. The collaboration gives learners access to guided reading experiences and presentation opportunities that go beyond traditional classroom learning.
By combining PickaBook’s innovative reading culture with HCC’s Cambridge-based English framework, the program creates an environment where students can grow academically and personally — learning not only to read well, but also to speak with confidence and conviction.
Inspiring a Culture of Reading in the Community
Through this partnership, Headway City College continues to play a leading role in developing a new generation of readers and communicators in Sri Lanka. The collaboration extends HCC’s educational impact beyond exams, encouraging families and communities around Ja-Ela, Kandana, Seeduwa, Pamunugama, and Wattala to rediscover the power of books and the spoken word.
The launch of this initiative reaffirms HCC’s belief that reading builds thinkers, and thinkers build the future — a philosophy perfectly aligned with the spirit of PickaBook Sri Lanka.
